His musicianship is the stuff of legend, and his personal story is heartbreaking--and life affirming. Leon Fleisher was on his way to conquering the music world at age16, singled out as "the pianistic find of the century" by the great conductor Pierre Monteux. A rare neurological disease lost him the use of his right hand… so he played and revitalized the left-handed repertory. After years of medical trials and tribulations he returned to the world concert stage and was named "Instrumentalist of the Year" in 1994 by Musical America.
Says the Washington Post, "The listener was immediately impressed by the pearly beauty of Fleisher's sounds - as gentle as it was firm, ruminative and intensely poetic yet without any smearing of the melodic line.”
