About the Artist
Described as one of the Western Isles’ true contemporary treasures, Julie Fowlis brings an incomparably authentic voice to Scottish folk music. Brought up on North Uist in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, Fowlis has been a proud standard bearer for Gaelic music and culture over the course of a solo career which has spanned three highly acclaimed studio albums, including Mar A Tha Mo Chridhe (As My Heart Is) in 2005.
On the release of her album Uam, MOJO’s Colin Irwin wrote that “after two fine solo albums, a clutch of awards, unexpected inroads into the mainstream and a Scots Gaelic version of The Beatles' “Blackbird,” this seductively inviting selection - exuding romance, beauty and sorrow - subtly expands her horizons…Elegant, evocative, unerringly classy.”
