About the Artist
Cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han rank among the most esteemed and influential classical musicians in the world today. The talent, energy, imagination and dedication they bring to their multifaceted endeavors as concert performers, recording artists, educators, artistic administrators, and cultural entrepreneurs go unmatched. Their duo performances have garnered superlatives from the press, public, and presenters. London’s Musical Opinion said of their Wigmore Hall debut: “They enthralled both myself and the audience with performances whose idiomatic command, technical mastery and unsullied integrity of vision made me think right back to the days of Schnabel and Fournier, Solomon and Piatigorsky.”
They are joined by Violinist Philip Setzer, founding member of the Emerson String Quartet, which includes Setzer on violin and David Finckel on cello. The quartet has received eight Grammy Awards, three Gramophone Awards, and the coveted Avery Fisher Prize. As a soloist, Setzer has appeared with numerous orchestras. In 1976, he won a bronze medal at the Queen Elisabeth International Competition in Brussels.
All Mendelssohn program: Sonata for cello & piano in D-Major Op. 58, plus the two trios for piano, violin, and cello (in D-minor, Op 49, and in C-minor, Op. 66)
